Sunday saw the first BBQ Burner where six artists from the region, interstate and one from overseas, took to the hoarding outside the old David Jones homewares building with spray-cans.
The event included DJs and a BBQ for onlookers, and is the first of a series to be staged over the next eight months. Organiser Simon Grant said it’s aimed at developing quality art and nurturing artists while engaging the local community.
One of the artists Nemco hails from Milan in Italy and loves creating as a form of self expression, and said it also lifts the mood of the community.
“It’s maybe a sub-culture, but it’s still a culture and there’s a lot to learn about it,” he said. “Graffiti doesn’t have to be a bad thing … it’s been going 40 years or more and can be enjoyed by everyone.”
