Police officer, Constable Bridie Dorans met Prince Charles and wife Camilla during the Royal family's two-week tour of Australia.
The 21-year-old is based at Wagga Wagga Local Area Command and has only been in the police force for about 16 months.
Constable Dorans was born and raised in Jamberoo, later moving to Kiama before relocating to Wagga aged 20.
She was invited to attend the NSW Mounted Police Unit at Redfern last Thursday, where she met Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Constable Dorans said her career aim is to join the NSW Mounted Police.
Constable Dorans was chosen as one of the representatives to attend in accordance with NSW police’s 100th Anniversary of Women In Policing celebrations.
The police officer was recommended to take part by her Local Commander Bob Noble as a reward for “her hard work and the way she goes about it”, according to a Facebook post.
The royals had a tour of the Mounted Police’s museum and stables, and watched a display by the unit and Riding for the Disabled.
“We were introduced to them as representatives of Women in Policing,” Constable Dorans said of the royals.
“It was incredible, it was such an honour to be there.
“They came past and we saluted them, shook their hands and had a brief chat.
“It was great. I really didn’t know what to expect; I found out on the day that I was representing Women in Policing.”
Constable Dorans said she often visited her family in Kiama.
“I come home on my days off; I miss the water too much,” she said.
“Where I am is a really good station though, and a great place to learn.
“Some people don’t think of country areas as busy, but there is quite a lot of crime out here.
“So it’s a good way to learn, being thrown in at the deep end.”
