Many of these people also headed to the University of Wollongong on Friday, November 6 to watch the screening of a new film that is inspiring climate change action.

This Changes Everything is based on the best-selling book This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate by Canadian author Naomi Klein.

The feature-length film visits communities on the frontlines against gas “fracking’’ and coal mining and explores the ways in which their grassroots movements are winning.

UOW student and Australian Youth Climate Coalition member Eva Davis-Boermans was glad to show the movie in Wollongong.

“Young people have always been at the forefront of demanding positive change,’’ she siad.

“The film is very hopeful and shows that people-power can’t be ignored. We hope everyone who watches the film is inspired to get further involved in building this movement.’’

The film has been released in the lead up to a global People’s Climate March to be held in hundreds of cities over the weekend of November 28-29.

A large rally will be held in Sydney on November 29 at the Domain at 1pm. The rallies coincide with the UN climate summit in Paris and are calling for a transition to 100 per cent renewable energy.

UOW’s National Education Tertiary Education Union organiser Martin Cubby is hoping a large Illawarra contingent will take the climate train to the Sydney rally.

“It's vital that our Illawarra community is part of these huge global rallies, and as a show of unity people will be joining the climate train on Sunday, November 29,’’ Mr Cubby said.

“The train will be stopping to pick up Illawarra marchers from Kiama at 9.58am to Helensburgh at 11.24am. Together we can send a strong message to Malcolm Turnbull and all world leaders in Paris. Our planet and it's peoples' desperately need real action.

“We must end reliance on coal and all fossil fuels.’’
