The council had leased the Foxground Road property for the past two decades to provide the brigade with a home.

However, the agreement had been on a month-by-month basis since June 2009 after one of the landowners died.

Councillors resolved at the August meeting to proceed with the purchase and general manager Michael Forsyth said a monetary figure had been agreed upon.

Senior deputy captain Con Goik said the 15-member brigade and the Foxground community would embrace the sale if it went through.

"It means we can plan on recruiting new members," he said.

"We had plans a couple of years ago ... but that's been put on hold."

Mr Goik said the station was Foxground's sole community building and he would like to see the facility improved and used more.

"There have been community get-togethers there and the Landcare group likes to meet there," he said.

"We're prepared to put in the time and effort to make it safe and useful for the community."

Kiama Mayor Sandra McCarthy said if climate change made the area more bushfire-prone, it was important for the brigade to have a secure base.

"It will be encouraging to see them developing... younger members through planning and training," she said.
