Reverend Mulready, who turned 65 last Thursday, and his wife Maureen have been living in Gerringong since October 2011. They retired there after he served as Bishop of the Diocese of North West Australia, an area covering two-thirds of the state.
Married for 40 years, the couple have three married children and four young grandchildren.
They also served together in ministries in rural and city churches in Sydney, Armidale and north-west Australia.
Rev Mulready said he was delighted to be offered the opportunity to work in a small parish again, albeit just two days a week.
"I only started last week, but I am like the proverbial 'pig in mud' at Jamberoo and revel in the atmosphere that surrounds this wonderful community," he said.
"While it is regarded as part-time, I can imagine I will be on call much more often than that, but that's fine, I'd rather be busy than sitting around.
"The important thing is I'm here to serve the people of Jamberoo."
Bishop of Wollongong, Peter Hayward, will commission Rev Mulready at a service in Jamberoo at 9.30am on Sunday.
"It is very unusual for a bishop to take on a small rural parish," Rev Mulready said. "I still have energy and a will to serve our God in whatever way I can."
