James McDonald's ice-cool ride on Magic Hurricane lifted the European import to a maiden group 1 in Australia and a fifth win for Godolphin at a red-letter Epsom Handicap meeting.

In a world first for Sheikh Mohammed's international racing and breeding giant, the Godolphin blue was carried to victory in five races at a major meeting as Magic Hurricane capped a huge day for John O'Shea's Australian outfit.
"I've never had anything remotely like that," an ecstatic O'Shea said. "You dare to dream and we knew we had the horses right. Things have gone right in the last fortnight and we came here hoping they would run well.
"From my perspective it's about the quality of horses I have to train and the people around me. I think if most trainers had [the Godolphin team] at their disposal they would achieve similar results."
Despite flying in Hong Kong's champion jockey Joao Moreira for the meeting, it was Godolphin's retained rider in Australia, James McDonald, who stole the show, booting home all five winners.
On a day where eight of the nine favourites saluted to strip hundreds of thousands from bookmakers' bags, McDonald won on Calliope (Gimcrack Stakes), Ambience (Dulcify Quality), Exosphere (Roman Consul Stakes) and Complacent (Craven Plate).
But it was Magic Hurricane's runaway win in the $750,000 The Metropolitan, the staying climax of the Sydney spring, which pleased most as Chris Waller's Beaten Up denied a Godolphin quinella. Moreira piloted Havana Cooler into third.
Magic Hurricane's win vaulted him into the Caulfield Cup mix with Craven Plate duo Complacent and Hauraki as the Godolphin blue prepare to swarm Melbourne.
"It's amazing," McDonald said. "I'm privileged to be riding for one of the greatest [racing] empires in the world. This is what dreams are made of. It was so important for us to win this race and as soon as the barriers came out I went 'yeah baby'."
Magic Hurricane is likely to join Craven Plate quinella Complacent and Hauraki in the Caulfield Cup.
"Hopefully Magic [Hurricane] has made his way into the race," O'Shea said. "He's just coming right. If they're happy enough to have him we would like to run him.
"We've got to get [the team] to go well when we get to Melbourne too. It is always good to win on your home turf and we have an advantage because of Osborne Park.
"We've got to get them to carry that form through to Melbourne and that will be the challenge for the team going forward over the next month."
Magic Hurricane, narrowly beaten in the Hill Stakes last start, was lifted to the fourth line of betting for the Caulfield Cup at $13 alongside Complacent. Hauraki ($10) is the second favourite with Japanese raider Fame Game ($9) topping charts.
