Kasey Kahne is a household name in America. It’s not uncommon for thousands upon thousands of people to line up at NASCAR events to get the champion’s signature.
Now, thanks to C1 Speed Indoor Karting Albion Park Rail owners Steve and Dee-Ann Caunt, Illawarra motor enthusiasts are in for a Christmas treat.
Kahne will compete for Steve Caunt Racing at the Ultimate Sprintcar Championships in Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.
The high-profile American will not only contest six events in late December and early January, Kahne will also take part in a special race day event at C1 Speed Indoor Karting.
“When it comes to motor racing people such as Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt and Mario Andretti are names that roll off your tongue,” Steve Caunt said. “Kasey Kahne is just as good as these legends.
‘’I have to tell you that it doesn’t get bigger than this for Wollongong and Shellharbour. This guy is a class act.

“Personally to have one of the top 10 drivers in the world come to our building and business, and stay at our house is just amazing.’’
Caunt is also excited to have Kahne race for his team on December 26, 28, 30 and January 1, 3 and 5.
He believes his involvement will add credibility to the Steve Caunt Racing team.
‘’Two years ago we had two-time world sprintcar champion Jason Meyers race for us,” Caunt said.
“That was quite an achievement. Now Kasey, we’re very happy.
‘’He adds a good standard to our team and it is exciting to have such a famous person come and race for us.
‘’I think it is also great for Wollongong and Shellharbour.’’
Caunt said while the logistics involved in shipping Kahne’s cars and equipment was difficult, the investment was “definitely worth it’’.
“It is a a great honour to have someone like Kasey involved with our racing program,’’ he said.
Getting his fix of Sprintcar racing Australian style has an allure all its own for Kahne.
“I’ve enjoyed the racing and the hospitality in Australia before and there’s a lot to like about coming back down there for it,” Kahne said.
“It’s a quick break and I get to squeeze in six races.’’
