Lifeline’s Big Book Fair will also hit $2 million raised when it celebrates its birthday on Friday, October 9 at Illawarra Sports Stadium in Berkeley.
The three-day event was first held in April of 2006 at the Kembla Grange Racecourse and was an overwhelming success.
But there were many unknowns for that first event.
‘’We really didn’t know how the first event would turn out. Book Fairs had been running at other Lifeline centres for many years, but we didn’t know how it would go in Wollongong,’’ Lifeline South Coast executive director Grahame Gould said.
‘’We received so much support from our community at that first event through people donating books to offering their time as volunteers that we knew in 2007 that we had enough support to run two Book Fairs per year.’’
More than 80,000 high quality pre-loved books will be displayed across two rooms at Lifeline’s Big Book Fair with prices starting at just $1.
There will be something for everyone with books displayed in over 50 categories.
The fair runs from 9am to 5pm on Friday, October 9 and Saturday October 10, and from 9am to 4pm on Sunday. Entry to the event is via gold coin donation.
The Big Book Fair is the major fundraising event for Lifeline South Coast, including for Lifeline’s 24-hour telephone crisis support service in the region
