The Warilla-based DENNY Foundation took home the Volunteer Team of the Year award while Mrs James, who volunteers with the Illawarra Community Garden Network, was named Senior Volunteer of the Year (65+years).
Nowra firefighter Michael Evans picked up NSW’s top volunteering award by being named Illawarra 2015 Volunteer of the Year at the awards ceremony at Wollongong Golf Club on September 29.
A volunteer fire fighter with the Illaroo Road Rural Fire Brigade for the past 45 years, Mr Evans also won the Adult Volunteer of the Year (25-64 years) award category.
The three Illawarra winners are now in the running for the overall NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, to be held on December 4 to coincide with International Volunteer Day.
The Centre for Volunteering runs the awards to reward volunteers.
