Kasey Ashburner joined the ranks after being selected to attend a recent state-wide development camp.
The Surf Life Saving NSW Junior Development Academy Camp is for athletes aged between 12 and 14.
Throughout the three-day program at the Sydney Academy of Sport, athletes participated in training sessions under the watchful eye of top state coaches, attended discussions on nutrition, and were introduced to high performance and recovery techniques.
“It was a really fun camp and the highlight for me was being able to meet new people from all around NSW,” Kasey, 12, said.
“Some of the skills that will be really useful for me this season were learning some in-depth knowledge about how to work your core, and how to improve your stroke.”
She said hearing from athletes and coaches who have achieved at a high level has motivated her to keep training ahead of a busy season.
NSW Sports Development Officer, Mikaela Mew, feels the athlete’s time at the camp will continue to benefit them into the future.
“It was a highly successful and enjoyable camp where the participants gained skills that they can use in their own training when they return to their clubs,” Mrs Mew said.
