Gillian Armstrong’s documentary details the life of triple Oscar winner, late designer Orry-Kelly.
The Kiama-born designer created wardrobes for the silver screen from the 1930s to 1960s.
Orry George Kelly, as he was known away from the limelight, won Oscars for costume design for his work on An American in Paris (1952), Les Girls (1958) and Some Like It Hot (1960), and was nominated for Gypsy (1963).
The film was launched at the Sydney Film Festival with a world premiere aboard a cruise liner in June, and had a national theatrical release in July.
However, residents of Kiama have eagerly awaited a home-town screening.
Armstrong recently told the Kiama Independent that she hoped they would be able to show the film in Kiama, but negotiations were ongoing.
Kiama and District Historical Society president Sue Eggins said they were organising a ‘‘Celebration of Orry-Kelly night’’.
This will include a screening of Women He’s Undressed.
It will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 7.30pm at Gerringong Town Hall.
Mrs Eggins assisted with the film’s research, helped select photographs included in the film and chose the location shots around Kiama.
She said they had been waiting for the film’s travelling film festival run to conclude before it could be screened locally.
Mrs Eggins didn’t expect that Armstrong would be able to attend the Gerringong screening as Women He’s Undressed would be appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival at the time.
Mrs Eggins was thrilled that many Kiama residents would finally have the opportunity to see the film.
‘‘A lot of people in Kiama have gone to see it in other places, but a lot said they’d come back and see it again,’’ she said.
‘‘I think it’ll be popular.’’
The event will be a combined function of the Historical Society and Gerringong Pics and Flicks.
Tickets are $15 from the Kiama Visitors Centre.
