The Kiama unit were crowned state champions in May and will now test their skills against the country's best.
Kiama's six-person rescue challenge team will represent NSW at the 2015 National Disaster Rescue Challenge in Canberra from September 5-6.
Teams are typically judged on their technical rescue skills, ability to be innovative, teamwork and leadership skills during a series of surprise rescue scenarios.
The event takes place every two years.
Team leader and local controller Warren Turner said the Kiama team competed in the same event in Adelaide four years ago and finished second.
After deciding not to enter last time, he said their goal was "to do one better" than their 2011 result.
"We've been training pretty much full-on since the beginning of February.
"We've just got to improve by one."
The NDRC is the premier national competition for state/territory emergency services.
The theme for this year's NDRC is interstate deployment - response to severe storm damage.
