An exhibition of bonsai trees and suiseki (natural stones) will be held at Heininger Hall at the Dapto Ribbonwood Centre on September 12-13.
The art of bonsai originated in China about 2000BC.
The trees were used for contemplation, art and poetry, by ruling families.
Later, the Japanese arrived in China and when they returned home, they took with them the art of penjing (Chinese small tree in a pot) back with them.
It later became known as bonsai.
The Urimbirra Bonsai Society will have a display of trees as well as a free clinic for people wanting help with their trees and maintenance techniques.
Other features on display will be the appreciation of natural stones, or suiseki.
This art takes a different look at the average stone in styles such as mountains with waterfalls, snow, cave stones and scholar stones (those that resemble a person), flower stones and stones with other inclusions.
Guests can also select a tree and have a Urimbirra society member pot it for you.
