Last Friday the combined Rotary Districts and Clubs of NSW held the inaugural Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards Gala Presentation Dinner at Dockside Pavilion, Darling Harbour.
Twenty-four finalists from across NSW were honoured and an officer of the year selected for each of the six NSW emergency services organisations - plus one overall volunteer and one overall paid officer. As well as acknowledging the great work done by these selfless workers, the awards support Australian Rotary Health's PhD scholarship research into post traumatic stress disorder in emergency services personnel.
The club is gearing up for the Cystic Fibrosis Great Escape Care Rally breakfast on Tuesday, September 8, at Black Beach and the next local Mental Health First Aid Course is scheduled for September 23-24.
For more information about this project or anything else about Rotary call Ian Johnston on 0419 388 334.
Kiama Lions
We had a very successful inaugural barbecue outside Masters Hardware Store last weekend and hopefully we can turn that into a regular feature.
We managed to get the art show stands erected in time and will be taking them down next week.
But because the show is in the auditorium we will be holding our Ladies Night at the Bowlo this weekend.
Don't forget the Hot Rod Show at Black Beach, Sunday, September 13 - see you there.

Jamberoo CWA
This year, Jamberoo CWA Branch is carrying on the tradition - the branch will organise Opera in the Valley again. The event will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 8pm at the Jamberoo School of Arts. The accompanist will be Glenn Amer as he has done for many years. During the interval wine and cheese will be served, while the famous CWA supper will follow after the performance. Tickets $45. As soon as we have more detailed information we will let you know.
Last year's performance was according to some of the audience "the best show they had seen". Be assured that this year's event will be similar.
For more information on Jamberoo CWA contact Mia on 4236 1913.
