“My part is easy,” Mr Dare said during his seven-hour day selling Daffodil Day goods outside Woolworths Shellharbour. “I sit there and take the money but the community are the ones who work for their money and they are the ones that support the cause.”
For the past seven years Mr Dare has operated a small stall at various locations throughout Shellharbour.
After fighting his own battle with melanoma and then pancreatic cancer, he wanted to do something for sufferers and their families so he got in touch with the Cancer Council.
“My first goal when I started was to raise $50,000,” Mr Dare said.
“Then when I reached that I changed it to $100,000. I feel as though I’ve fulfilled my first ambition but I couldn’t have done it without the support from everyone.
“I would really like to thank Bunnings where I reached my $100,000 target, Woolworths, Dan Murphy’s, Kiama Market, Stockland and the former Sam Warehouse.”
Cancer Council’s regional manager for Southern NSW Michael Cannon said it had been amazing to have Mr Dare on board helping the cause.
“You can’t stop him.''
Mr Cannon said, “He really is one of those members of the community that is making a real difference.”
