Langman, 29, who was a crucial player in the Silver Ferns' runner-up World Cup side, signed with the NSW Swifts this week.

The experienced Test player was granted an exemption by Netball NZ, whose general stance is that players have to be playing locally to be eligible for international duties.

It's not just the netball side of things that is appealing for New Zealand players, with job opportunities also attractive, a consideration unique to a sport like netball where many players have full-time day jobs as well.

"I do know that a number of Silver Ferns did put names to Australian franchises not just in the netball arena but also because of work opportunities," she said.

"That could possibly be on the horizons for them also."

Jencke said any future exemptions should be examined on individual bases.

"She's (Langman) earned her stripes so if anyone's eligible for exemption, she is, but it needs to be based on individuals."

Australian shooter Caitlin Thwaites is one who has done it the opposite way, being selected for the Diamonds squad in 2011 while playing for Wellington-based Central Pulse.

It's unlikely any keen Silver Ferns will end up in Brisbane any time soon, though.

ANZ Championship teams are only allowed one import player and Jamaican shooter Romelda Aiken has the Firebirds spot well and truly sewn up for the foreseeable future.

Jencke said the inclusion of international players adds an extra element to the ANZ Championship but warned that recruiting an established star was not necessarily the key to success.

"I think there's a need for international players to add to the excitement and the variety of game that you see across the ANZ championship competition," she said.

"The thing is they're not a quick fix, don't think because you have a star player they'll come in and fix everything."
