The Shellharbour Voices, Interests and Education of Women (VIEW) Club meet every second Thursday to discuss local issues, learn from various guest speakers and most importantly raise money and awareness for programs run through the Smith Family.
The group's aim is to "empower women through voice, interest and education" and take action in the lives of Australian children who are doing it tough.
VIEW Club publicity officer Marion Skinner arrived from New Zealand three years ago, without any friends and limited family, and the club help make Shellharbour her home.
"I knew I had to get to know people, I had to get out there and join an organisation or two and now I know a whole new group of people," she said.
"It's a great chance to get to know others in the area and at the same time raise money for children who really need the help."
The branch formed in April 1972, and member numbers continue to grow, with 55 committed women making up the Shellharbour team.
VIEW Shellharbour meet at Warilla Bowling Club every second Thursday for lunch and a guest speaker.
The next meeting is on August 12, and they also have a social day every third Thursday.
The branch is currently preparing for the Golden Girls Fashion Parade on August 20 at the Warilla Senior Citizens Club, as well as the VIEW Club National Convention, which will be held in Wollongong for the first time on September 11-12.
