Kayla, 16, has the rare bone disorder Kniest dysplasia.The year 10 student has had numerous surgeries for scoliosis and is wheelchair-bound.
She is also an ambassador for Make-A-Wish.
Earlier this month, the school hosted a skip-a-thon, which Kayla helped organise. The event raised $405.
Kayla's mother Gai Watkins said Kayla had a great time at the fundraiser, and was thrilled at the number of students who participated.
On August 10, Kayla underwent an operation at Westmead to have 13 teeth removed, which will be followed by neck and spinal surgery a couple of weeks later.
"Even though she's going for an operation, she wanted to help everybody else," her mother said.
"She has such empathy."
Kiama High teacher Joe Fava said it was great to put a smile on Kayla's face.
"She's very outgoing, sings all the time and is very caring," he said.
