In any form of sport, South Coast competitors have a reputation for bringing their A-game.
With the vast pool of talent out there, just making it to a regional carnival is an achievement in itself.
A number of Athletics Wollongong juniors representing their own schools have done us proud by the effort, determination and, in many cases, results in the regional athletics championships held in Canberra last Friday.
Results so far:
Alysia Gardener: 2nd, G17, discus; Connor Grozde: 1st, B16, javelin; 2nd, discus; Hailey van Vreumingen: 3rd, G15, 400m.
Casey Lee Bedford smashed two records by recording a blistering 12.01sec in the 100 metres and 24.90 in the 200m.
Not to be outdone, Teghan Barklay in the girls' 16s broke the regional high jump record and jumped a second in the long jump.
In the 13 girls, Rosie Tozer won the high jump, was second in triple jump and third in discus.
The 16s boys were one of the meet's memorable performing groups.
Momolu Sirleaf came first in long jump, and second in the 100m in 10.87 to Jarrod Twigg who recorded an enormous 10.76.
Twigg was a busy lad, also winning the 110m hurdles and discus, second in javelin and 200m and third in long jump.
Brad van Vreumingen, also in the boys 16s group, came second to Robby Marks who jumped a sky-high 1.85m.
Blake Barklay won the boys 14 hurdles and Emily Fraser, in her last year at school, was placed second in the 100m hurdles and third in both long jump and triple jump.
State qualifiers are taken from the first two placings at region.
Rebecca Pollard competed earlier last week in the Sydney South West Regionals at Campbelltown, winning the 100m hurdle and long jump and placing second in the 100 and 200 and long jump.
