Over the past 10 years, the program, initiated by Peace Park advocate Winsome Barker, has raised more than $26,000, with inscribed bricks being placed along the park’s pathway. Funds raised go into work in the park, including the gazebo.
“Winsome came and spoke to our group about the history of Peace Park and the amount of people who use the park, not only for relaxation and reflection, but is also used for people having photos taken for special occasions,” Women’s Fellowship’s Gail Pickles said.
“We thought it was a very worthwhile project and are thrilled to be part of it.”
Mrs Barker said she is constantly encouraged by the range of people who want to get involved in the Buy-a-Brick project.
“The park is non-denominational on purpose and we are thrilled that not only local church and community groups have chosen to buy bricks, but also families and individuals, and the number continues to grow.
“Anyone interested in purchasing a brick to be placed at Peace Park can do so by going to the reception desk at Kiama Council and fill out the form. Cheques for $100 should be made out to Kiama Council (Peace Park).”
