Students of the U3A (University of the Third Age) can become fluent in German, learn early history, enjoy creative writing and poetry appreciation, be skilled in bridge or stay active with table tennis, tai chi and bushwalking.
In a celebration of learning the U3A offer people 55 years and over the chance to join regular social groups in an educational or active environment.
Shellharbour City U3A president Margaret Shannon said the courses were for all skill sets, backgrounds and genders.
"Some people are learning new skills, some people continuing with the skills they already have," she said. "It's all just another way of keeping the brain active."
Ms Shannon said U3A regularly went on day trips to local and Sydney theatre productions as well as educational trips.
"Then once a year we go on a longer overnight trip," she said.
"In September we will be spending five nights down in Gippsland, Victoria and last year we went to Orange."
Membership is $30 and weekly courses cost $10 for the term, or $5 for monthly courses for the term.
The U3A is located at the old Catholic church, corner of King Street and Bradman Street, Warilla.
