SOUTH Coast Cricket Association officials are hoping the increased profile of women's cricket will turn into an increase in female players, and eventually a four-team women's Twenty20 competition.

South Coast board member Brad Speering is looking for female players who would like to be involved in the eight-a-side Kookaburra Cup in Canberra later this year.
"There will be competitions for under-18s and under-15s at the cup," Speering said.
"However, we are hoping to get together a team of under-15s and with a number of players already playing with the boys, we are confident we might have enough for a squad of, say, 11 players.
"We are hoping to use the increased exposure of women's cricket on television, which has created enormous interest in the game, and hoping to piggy-back on that to help establish the women's game on the South Coast."
Regional cricket development manager Paul Brockley said the impending establishment of a Women's Big Bash League was already creating plenty of buzz.
"The Big Bash, which is being viewed on free-to-air television, is definitely helping promote the awareness of women's cricket and we are hoping the interest there will convert to more numbers of girls playing cricket," Brockley said.
"Cricket Australia is thrilled to see the increased numbers playing Milo Cricket, in2CRICKET and T20 Blast competitions over the past few years.
"We already have a Sydney Sixers Cricket League in Sydney as well as an academy.
"We are hoping to do the same in the country areas, with South Coast leading the charge."
Speering said that the South Coast Cricket Association hoped to attract enough interest to start a girls' T20 competition in the area in the near future.
"With help from our local clubs we would like to establish a girls' competition.
"We envisage that we might be able to start with four teams.
"Because T20 is a shorter game, we could play both games on the same ground each week and make it a really fun activity."
