DRIVING round the beautiful South Coast is made difficult by the ongoing, seemingly endless, road works up and down the highway. We endure the inconvenience, knowing someday it will be over and we have better roads.

Our experience is made much worse by incompetent traffic management practices that seem to be increasingly the norm.
Recently, I have come across a section of highway with 40km/h roadworks signs interspersed with 80km/h speed signs - made for an entertaining dance between those who chose to do the slower speed versus the faster one.
The new on-ramp at Gerringong, that took nearly three weeks before a 60km/h sign was rotated so it could be seen by motorists.
Each day I seem to pass roadworks with no End of Roadworks sign, so we are left to make our own decisions when to return the normal speed limit.
Two weeks ago in a 100km/h zone we were warned of roadworks ahead with a 40km/h speed limit. I passed the 40km/h signs to find no workers, no trucks, no other signs. So when was it legal to return to 100km/h?
These are just some of the at-times dangerous signs of incompetence I have witnessed.
Please, someone tell these traffic management contractors to get their act together. We as motorists depend on them to be competent, accurate and timely in the setting up and removal of roadworks signage.
