ILLAWARRA Academy of Sport Netball squad capped off a great 2015 season on the courts coming away from the recent nib Games tournament in Mayfield with impressive performances from returning athletes and the new recognition of depth that the new athletes from our region had to offer.

The altering of age being lowered for the first time this season has proved interesting with athletes being exposed to new application of skills the dynamics of team also being refreshed.
IAS Team 1 completed the tournament in 5th out of 10 with 6 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, whilst Team 2 finished seventh out of 12 with four wins, five loses, memorable match play for Team 1 were performances against Sydney Netball Academy, Hunter and South West Sydney, whilst Team 2 had strong performances against Far West, Northern Inland, Serna and Hunter.
These performances are a true testament to all staff involved with the Netball Program and not to mention the dedication of all the athletes involved.
Meanwhile, individual Athlete Lauren O'Neill took both her horses last weekend to the NSW Equestrian Interschool Championships at Horsley Park.
Lauren had three classes on each of her horses, Sam jumped in the 1.1 metre classes consistently but without placing in a tough competition.
Hayden was the star as Friday's conditions were atrocious to say the least.
With a huge improvement in the weather and conditions on Saturday, Hayden and Lauren placed fourth in the one metre AM5 class, and fifth in the A2 class on Sunday out of 60 riders.
Lauren now heads to the Interschool Clinic, as she is in contention for the NSW Show Jumping Team for the National Championships.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport is calling for athlete nominations for 2016 Sports Scholarships.
