Australia has a new death stare queen: Delta Goodrem.

The singer – once at risk of being canonised by Australia's media – unleashed a series of spectacular greasies on The Voice last night. And it was something to behold.

The drama began when all four coaches turned their chairs for 24-year-old busker Joe Moore, who gave an incredible performance of Ed Sheeran's I See Fire.

Delta begged him to join her. But instead of trying to lure the young contestant to her team, rival coach Jessie J urged him to go with Benji and Joel Madden.

"I want you to do well," she explained. "And I think everything that you embody ... they're going to be the best coaches."

This incensed Delta, who rose to her feet and commanded: "No! No!"

Dressed head-to-toe in white – as though ready to return straight home to Heaven after the episode – she raised her hands in the air. For one terrifying moment, it seemed she was about to strike the contestant with a bolt of lightning for merely thinking of disobeying her. Ricky Martin cowered helplessly in his seat.

"If you want to have a career here in Australia..." Delta said to Joe, leaving her sentence open-ended. Obviously, it was a thinly-veiled threat: defy me and I will crush you.

Bravely/stupidly, Joe chose the Maddens.

This enraged the deity, who swiftly enacted some Old Testament-style vengeance.

While walking up to Joe under the pretense of congratulating him, Delta morphed her smile into a full-powered death stare.

"May the force be with you," she said. (This was actually a curse, ensuring that if Moore wins the season, his contract will be onerous, poorly paid and limit his artistic expression. Oh, wait...)

After returning to her red throne, she placed a less ambiguous curse upon Jessie.

"I'm going to kill you," she vowed. "I'm going to kill you."

Seconds later, Jessie was pulverised by Delta's laser beam eyes. Channel Nine was then forced to re-edit the episode, using old clips of the British singer and some clever CGI effects, hoping viewers wouldn't notice.

Still, Delta was not placated.

The goddess narrowed her eyes, then rolled them. She jutted her jaw and pursed her lips. There was an icy stare followed by an elaborate head waggle.

It was a full repertoire of death stares. And it was magnificent.

"Not cool," she declared.

"I'm not happy. I'm not happy to have been thrown under. I'm furious."

"I know that Delta's annoyed with me," replied Channel Nine's hastily-assembled animatronic Jessie J dummy, dressed unconvincingly in a see-through mesh top and black bra.

"I know that she's angry. Like, quite genuinely angry. It's just who I am, man. I'm very honest. Sometimes people don't like it and sometimes they do."

"I think that was bullshit," Delta spat at the dummy, silently formulating a plan to destroy it, too.
