The state was named the best island destination in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific and fourth best island in the world at the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards.
It marks the fifth time the island has been named Australia's best after taking away the award in 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The award was judged on natural attractions and beaches, activities and sights, restaurants and goods, people and friendliness and value.
Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania chairman Luke Martin said the latest accolade was especially exciting given Travel + Leisure's reach.
"When you think about what this means with all of Queensland's resort islands and South Pacific islands it's a big deal," Mr Martin said.
"We have to keep the momentum going ... [with] cultural and natural experiences."
Acting Tourism, Hospitality and Events Minister Jeremy Rockcliff said the award was more welcome exposure for the state.
"Tasmania's top rankings confirm what we've long believed; Tasmania is the place to be," he said.
"It also intensifies the international spotlight that has been shining on our state recently, including the Lonely Planet ranking Tasmania the fourth best region in the world to visit, the Chinese President's visit and our tourism businesses winning an unprecedented 10 gold at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
"This year's awards will be published in the August edition of Travel + Leisure World, which has a readership of around 6.6 million people globally, an online viewing audience of 2.5 million unique users every month and around 700,000 social media followers."
