Last month the Warilla weightlifter did it again when he won another gold medal at the Australian Masters Championship in Melbourne.
The win in the 62 kilogram class (45-49 years) came more than 10 years after Ivanovski's first Masters' gold medal.
This time he stepped down in weight and broke state records in the process.
In June 2003 Ivanovski lifted 85.5kg to break the snatch record in the 69kg division. In the clean and jerk, he cleared 105.5kg then he managed to successfully hold two more kilos to smash the previous record.
Fast forward to 2015 and the 48-year-old broke two state records in the 62kg division.
"I lifted 70kg in the snatch, beating the record by 5kgs. The 80kgs I did for the clean and jerk beat the state record by 3kgs. I was pretty happy," Ivanovski said.
"I haven't competed at this level [62kgs] since 2006. It was a big adjustment but for me it was all about getting my technique right which wasn't a big issue considering I've been weightlifting for 28 years now."
Ivanovski recently opened the Illawarra Weightlifting Club to help aspiring lifters get the best out of themselves.
"The club is affiliated with the NSW Weightlifting Association so members of my club can compete in their competitions," he said.
"I'm also big on teaching lifters the importance of technique. Getting your technique right makes all the difference as far as I'm concerned."
Weightlifting might have once been the domain of "big fat boys" but not any more, according to Ivanovski.
"I'm finding that a lot of people interested in CrossFit are now taking up weightlifting. Age also is no barrier. You are never too old or young to start lifting," he said.
The weightlifting club is located at 2 Johnston Street, Warilla. To join or for more details, call 0402 390 663.
