The Shellharbour City Business Network meeting featured a speaker from the Davidson Institute, Rob Lockhart, who discussed foundations of business planning.
Shellharbour City Council economic development manager Trevor James said whether people were starting out or seasoned, the presentation helped develop effective business plans.
"Writing a plan can reveal opportunities and potential problems that people may not otherwise see coming until it's too late," Mr James said.
"It can also help people to quickly get back on track when circumstances change," he said.
On Thursday, a workshop on strategic planning was hosted by businesses developer Michael Dobie.
He has more than 25 years experience helping in the development of sports organisations and individuals.
"With the financial year almost behind us, we can take stock of our achievements and reflect upon the experiences that led us to success or issues that we'd like to improve upon," Mr James said.
