Despite creating widespread public furore, Belle Gibson's tell-all 60 Minutes interview failed to win the Sunday night ratings, finishing behind Nine's The Voice and the evening news.
On Twitter, both 60 Minutes and Belle Gibson were trending in Australia as her interview went to air, but the program failed to match the hype of season opener of The Voice.
The return of the talent show with the addition of English singer Jessie J as a new judge won the night with 1.55 million viewers.
More than 1.3 million tuned in for the Nine News and 1.1 million to Seven News. 60 Minutes still outperformed Seven's House Rules and Ten's Masterchef, and placed forth with one million viewers.
Many people on Twitter said they were boycotting the show because of unproven claims 60 Minutes paid Ms Gibson $45,000 for her appearance.
It appears the interview did little to salvage Ms Gibson's reputation, with social media users savaging the disgraced wellness blogger.
The disgraced Whole Pantry author and app creator sat down with reporter Tara Brown and was probed about false claims she had multiple cancers, including stage-four brain cancer.
60 Minutes viewers had little sympathy for Ms Gibson, accusing her of being "sad", "deluded" and a "liar".
Both 60 Minutes and Belle Gibson were trending hashtags in Australia on Sunday night, with the general concensus on Twitter that Ms Gibson's cancer-battling followers were the real victims.
"My heart goes out to every victime of #BelleGibson's horrendous reckless lies," wrote Mamamia publisher Mia Freedman.
Ms Gibson rose to fame through her best-selling Whole Pantry wellness app. She claimed she was curing herself of multiple cancers with a sugar, dairy and gluten-free diet.
Brown meanwhile was praised for her no-nonsense interrogation of Ms Gibson about her real age and the true nature of her illnesses.
"The only positive in this is that I have a major crush on Tara Brown," wrote television presenter Faustina Agolley.
Ms Gibson still maintains she never lied, telling Brown she was diagnosed with cancer on a German cancer-detection machine.
I am already infuriated to the point where I could smash the television #60Mins— Shannon Molloy (@sleemol)

No remorse. No admission. Just lies and deceit. Those poor believers of #bellegibson. Tara Brown did a great job. #60Mins— Oliver Peterson (@oliverpeterson)

Tara's disdain & disgust for Belle is palpable. I would've struggled not to throttle her listening to these lies.. #60Mins— Meg Rayner (@megrayner)

It's interesting how fast some ppl rush to say "mental illness" when someone does something heinous we can't understand. #BelleGibson— Mia Freedman (@MiaFreedman)

#bellegibson is just sad. The real victims are the ones suffering severe illness who put their faith in her story and hoped for a cure.— SCarey7 (@SteveCarey7)

Cant decide if mentally ill or an opportunistic attention seeker. Saw a healthy ego but wanted 'I lied. I'm sorry' @60Mins #bellegibson— Jo Hall (@Jo_Hall9)
