Led by David Miller AM, Conquest XIV is one of the regular visits by talented Sydney Conservatorium students to country NSW, which are always warmly anticipated and highly successful.
Miller is widely recognised as one of Australia's leading pianist. He will introduce and accompany five of his most accomplished young wind instrumentalists playing solo and ensemble pieces from a varied classical repertoire which includes Handel, Mozart and Brahms.
The concert will feature the following students, all members of the Sydney Conservatorium Wind Symphony Rachel Thompson: Breeanna Moore, Levi Johnson, Liam Webb and Hamish Spicer.
Thompson plays the clarinet and along with her performance passion, she is also developing a teaching practice for younger musicians. Moore first took up the flute after developing interest in traditional Irish music and completed her bachelor degree in Queensland, filling the position of principal flute in the conservatorium. Johnson began playing the french horn at the age of 9. He progressed from the Conservatorium High School to tertiary study at the Con last year, where he is a member of the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestras. Webb had a later entry to formal music study and is currently finishing his Masters of Music Studies at the Conservatorium, majoring in bassoon. Spicer's oboe fills out the performer list and he is now principal oboist at the Conservatorium.
The show kicks off at 2pm, Sunday june 28. Tickets are $15 at the door from 1.30pm. Afternoon tea is available. Entry is free for children, students and members of Gerringong Music Club (a concessional annual membership of $40 will be available).
The club does not charge children and students in order to provide young people with the opportunity to hear fine music.
