Enrolments for Semester 2 open online at www.tafeillawarra.edu.au on Saturday 13 June.
Visitors can start their Saturday off with the ‘Lay a Brick with Mick’ challenge, snap up a bargain at the student bread and plant sales and enjoy student musical performances all while exploring their career options.
Choices Day is a one-stop shop for finding out what’s on offer in Semester 2, 2015 across TAFE Illawarra’s Wollongong, Wollongong West, Shellharbour, Yallah and Dapto campuses.
Visitors can seek career advice, gain assistance with the application process and access helpful information on VET Fee-Help student loans.
TAFE Illawarra’s Institute Director Dianne Murray says: “Choices Day can help people find out about the range of better futures TAFE Illawarra can open up through its nationally-accredited, internationally recognised qualifications from certificate through to degree level.
“The community can explore their options in all career areas, including Agriculture and Animal Studies, Automotive, Building and Construction, Business and Administration, Community and Health, Electrotechnology, Engineering and Manufacturing, Events, Hospitality and Cookery, Information Communication and Technology, Media and Journalism, Art, Pathways to Work or Study and English Language courses.
“Community and Health Services has been one of our most popular career areas this year, which is a reflection of the growth in the industry.
“Our students are seeing great success in the community services field. For example, St George Illawarra Dragons star Dan Hunt, who recently received TAFE Illawarra’s Community and Family Services Student of the Year award, has used his qualifications to gain a position as an NRL State of Mind ambassador to increase awareness around mental health.
“We have also seen a significant spike in Building and Construction, which speaks to the forecast growth of 5.8% for the construction industry over the next two years. This is a sign there are great job opportunities for those looking for a career path in trades,” said Ms Murray.
As of January this year, all new and continuing students need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to apply or enrol in any nationally registered course.
“We encourage our future students to bring their USI along to Choices Day. It’s free and easy to create a USI on the Australian Government Department of Industry website – www.usi.gov.au. We will also have staff available to help create their USI for those seeking assistance.
"We offer students strong links to industry, state-of-the-art training facilities, flexible training solutions and expert and supportive teachers.”
