- Create an entrance with impact - simply adding some pots with colourful flowers or greenery will give instant impact to your front or back door. Ensure the area is swept clear of dust, stray foliage and cobwebs to create a more inviting appeal. If the timber boards or brickwork needs a lift then why not go further with stone cladding for a whole new look?
- Deck it out - make a comfortable undercover area with a lounge to relax in. Revarnish or restain the existing timber deck in a different colour for a whole new look. For the lounge, choose marine-grade materials for durability in all weather conditions. Waterproof cushion covers are a must.
- Go green - adding garden beds to the pool area not only helps define and soften the space but also breaks up the expanse of paving and decking. Choose small shrubs or compact groundcovers along a narrow space in front of a fence. As for mulch, choose material that won’t blow into the pool or be picked over by birds. Strategically positioned solar lights will help define plants and spaces at night, as well as providing much-needed light along paths. If fence panels need replacing then consider man-made materials that will help block noise and are easy to fit in sections. This will help minimise cost and provide you with a striking architectural finish.
- Create a private space - either in a corner of the back yard or on the deck. Add a screen for privacy from neighbours and even to add a little intimacy to the space. A timber screen with gaps will allow breezes and sunlight to filter through, to help you stay connected with nature. Add comfortable seats, table, lights and ...voila! Your own private oasis is within easy reach.
- Old treasures, new look - with a paint makeover for rusted gates, pots or that neglected outdoor setting. Metal spray paints come as an ‘all in one’ with primer, undercoat and top coat to save time and money. Choose a colour that will complement, yet contrast for depth, with your fence, screen or exterior walls. For a setting, add some colourful cushions and tableware and some potted colour for an inviting look.
- Pot up - repaint shabby-looking pots with a vibrant colour to reinvigorate your winter. Mix and match coloured pots for a striking vignette in a section of the garden. It might also be time to either report plants into a bigger pot or rid the yard of foliage that is not growing.
