The NSW SES State Disaster Rescue Challenge took place at Jamberoo Action Park on the weekend.
Teams from throughout NSW travelled to Jamberoo for two days of competition, across nine different rescue scenarios.
The biennial, two-day challenge concluded on Sunday afternoon.
Kiama’s rescue challenge team were named best in the state at a presentation dinner in Wollongong on Sunday night.
The six-person team from Kiama battled it out against units from Coffs Harbour, Queanbeyan, Gosford, Hawkesbury, Sydney City and Port Macquarie-Hastings.
They will now represent NSW, and travel to the national competition in Canberra in September.
Team leader and Local Controller Warren Turner was also awarded best team leader in the competition.
Teams were judged on their technical rescue skills, their ability to be innovative, teamwork and leadership skills.
Mr Turner said he was pleased with how the team had performed, particularly the teamwork displayed.
He said the result was a reward for their hard work at training during recent months.
‘‘The SES isn’t just about storms and floods,’’ he said.
‘‘It gives them a chance to show other skills volunteers have.
‘‘They got the chance to take part in activities like vertical rescue, flood rescue, demonstrate teamwork and work with other units from across NSW.’’
