He is seeking any photographs, reminiscences and other memorabilia about the highway for the project.
Mr Barrow hopes to use the material to write a book, similar to his work Magnificent: Lake George – the biography, published in 2012.
“There are many different aspects of the Kings Highway, the historical homesteads, Braidwood, Bungendore, Nelligen, Batemans Bay, the Clyde River, the Shoalhaven River and the saga of the Clyde Mountain,” he said.
“The highway was vital to bringing fresh produce from the coast to the tablelands over the years.”
Mr Barrow admits there is much he does not know about the highway, which he hopes to correct.
“I am just starting out; I still have a lot to find out,” he said.
A book about the highway would not be accurate if it was 100 per cent sunshine and kisses, and this book won’t be.
“The NRMA has been vociferous in its criticism of the Kings Highway, and I am going to tap into that as well,” Mr Barrow said.
Mr Barrow has been producing books since 1977, including many bushwalking guides to the Canberra region.
