THE KIAMA Relay for Life committee has welcomed a new chairperson, as the Cancer Council fund-raiser prepares for another successful event in 2015.

Cancer Council NSW’s Southern region has announced the appointment of Marie Dalton to the role of chairperson for the Kiama Relay For Life event this year.
Mrs Dalton has lived in Kiama for most of her adult life, and said she had a strong commitment to the Relay For Life event, having been involved since its inception in 2010.
“I believe the work Cancer Council do is of utmost importance,’’ she said.
‘‘By supporting Cancer Council through Relay For Life I contribute to those in the community who continue to fight the disease, and honour those who have lost the battle.”
Mrs Dalton and the volunteer committee are calling on the Kiama community to support the 2015 Relay by becoming an organising committee volunteer.
“If you can donate a portion of your time to join the committee, I would be truly appreciative,” she said.
“If we work together, great things can be achieved.”
Cancer Council NSW Southern region’s Community Engagement Manager Terry Deegan said the organising committee called for people with plenty of enthusiasm.
“Marie and her husband Steve have returned to the committee, along with local legends Loretta Stegga, Coral Barrott, Angela Wallace, Barb Mandelson, Chris and Sue Wiecek, Sharon and Danielle Dibartolo, Lorraine Murray, Robyn Crabb, Karen Hamilton, Michael Innes and Kerrilyn Bailey.
‘‘We also welcome fantastic new members Bec Home, Hannah Ragen, Olivia Russell and Linda Long to the team.
‘‘But, we are always looking for more committee members to make it another amazing community event this year.’’
During the Relay For Life weekend, teams camp out overnight, theme their outfits and tents and walk the track.
There will be live music, entertainment, food stalls, fun activities for the kids and the Candlelight Ceremony of Hope, which takes place at dusk to remember those lost to cancer.

Kiama Relay For Life will take place on October 24 and 25 at Kiama Leisure Centre Sports Fields.
