The Kiama Kubes wintertime swimming group was founded in 1980.

It takes place every Sunday through winter, regardless of weather at 10 am at the little rockpool at Kiama, aka The Kube Dome to participants.

All members are given nicknames, including Bombo, Boneyard, Fish and Fairweather Phil.

Kubes member Captain said they had a broad mix of members, from retired school teachers, police officers, accountants to plasterers and nurses.

Participant numbers typically range between 15 and 25.

On Sunday, the Kubes hosted their FOK day (Friend of Kube Day).

"Every season we have one FOK day to recruit new members," Captain said.

"Some stay for the long run, for others once is enough."

The 2015 season runs from May 3 to September 27.

"It's on no matter what the weather's like," Captain said. "Nothing serious, just getting out on a Sunday morning.

"Some days are beautiful, some days are cold, but it brings everyone together.

"We also want to let all old members of Kubes know that we are having a heritage round on August 16, where we want to invite all old members back for a swim and barbecue to mix with all members new and old."

The season culminates with the club championships and awards at Kiama Harbour.

The two most prestigious honours are Kube of the Year and Soup of the Year - a hotly contested prize every year - plus FOK of the Year, Worst Soup and Chip of the Year (aka a young member of the club).
