Kiama MP Gareth Ward was joined by president Ray Thorburn OAM, secretary John Kenny, Pipe Major Paul Wells and John Morrison from the Kiama Pipe Band.
"This is one aspect of my job which I really do love the most - meeting with local residents and talking to them face-to-face about the issues they are passionate about," Mr Ward said.
"The old Kiama Municipal Pipe Band was quite active until it was disbanded in 1987. However, people like Ray Thorburn, who has had almost a lifetime of involvement with the pipe band movement, have done a lot of work to re-establish this group and I am quite honoured to now serve as their patron.
"I want to also acknowledge Kiama Lions Club and Kiama Rotary Club who have also generously offered their support to the Kiama Pipe Band."
Secretary of the Kiama Pipe Band John Kenny said they chose Mr Ward as patron because they have a strong focus on community.
"With Gareth's commitment to our local community - we thought it was a good fit and we were delighted when he accepted," Mr Kenny said.
"Gareth's appreciation of music also appealed to us."
Anybody interested in getting involved with the band can contact Mr Thorburn on 4233 1442 for more details.
