The biscuit campaign raises money for local units to help fund activities and events, buy supplies, and support disadvantaged girls to join the country’s peak organisation for girls and young women.
Aside from raising much needed funds for guide units, the biscuit campaign gives girls the opportunity to learn a variety of valuable skills including, critical skills in leadership, teamwork, business and sales.
The Warilla-Windang group also launched their campaign focus this year, Free to be me, which explores notions of identity and self-image.
Girl Guides leader Susan Costello said Free to Be Me was a “fantastic” program for the many different types of girls who join the guides.
“A lot of the girls come to guides because they are shy or quiet and in this environment they learn to be more outward and more outgoing as we build up there self-confidence,” she said.
“This program is a great thing for girls and really talks about how they feel about themselves.”
Ms Costello said the Warilla-Windang group were currently doing a recruitment drive to get more girls aged 6-14 enrolled as well as more senior leaders (over 18-years-old) to patrol the guides. Anyone interested can call 0407 437 878.
