On May 20-23, audiences will look on in the tear-jerking stage adaptation by Tom Holloway, in a co-production by Sydney Theatre Company (STC) and Perth's Barking Gecko Theatre Company as part of a national tour.
The play is directed by John Sheedy and follows Storm Boy as he roams the beautiful, savage landscape of wave-beaten shores and windswept dunes.
He picks up unlikely friends along the way - the enigmatic Fingerbone Bill and a family of orphaned pelicans, including his favourite, Mr Percival.
This theatrical version of Colin Thiele's classic explores Storm Boy's last childhood summer spent with his reclusive dad, Hideaway Tom, in the wild freedom of South Australia's Coorong.
Themes of loss, grief and ultimately hope will linger long after the final curtain call.
The title role will be alternated by two young actors, Kai Lewins and Otis Pavlovic. Storm Boy's father, Hideaway Tom, will be played by Julian Garner, who recently appeared in Sport for Jove's productions of The Crucible, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing and Cyrano de Bergerac. Also joining the cast as Fingerbone Bill is Jimi Bani (Redfern Now, Mabo, The Straits).
Tickets are $55 and performances run from Wednesday, May 20, to Saturday, May 23, at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, 32 Burelli Street, Wollongong.
