The members are preparing for the Autumn Hues exhibition from May 5-11, which will display a collection of diverse styles and mediums at Old Kiama Fire Station.

The committee is also celebrating recently secured funds for the development of a new Shellharbour Arts Precinct at the co-op in Albion Park.

Arts society committee member Judi Goodwin said the new precinct would generate "culture and a love of art" and give the community exposure to acclaimed artists.

"The aim is to develop a huge art exhibition space inviting acclaimed artists from all over Australia to exhibit their work," she said.

"The precinct will also have workshops and lessons, which will expose the community to art and encourage local people to have a go at art, as well as make people aware and appreciate art. We are waiting for development application approval to begin the renovations and hoping to commence at the end of 2015."

Local business IMB bank handed over a portion of the funding last week and the other portion was government funds presented by Shellharbour MP Anna Watson.

The Autumn Hues exhibition is a free entry event and will run daily from May 5-11 at Old Kiama Fire Station between 9am-5pm.
