OAK Flats opening batsman Kerry Penfold has celebrated a great return to South Coast Cricket after taking out the association’s inaugural Premier League Player of the Year Award.

Penfold, who has played the previous three seasons as captain-coach of the Berry-Shoalhaven Heads club in the Shoalhaven competition, returned to his beloved Oak Flats Rats and led from the front, scoring 660 runs for the season at an impressive average of 82.5.
His consistency also earned him the M & M Sports Player of the Year, as judged by the umpires.
Other batting awards went to The Rail’s Andrew Warren (first grade) with 383 runs at 63.83, Albion Park’s Scott Combes (second grade) with 256 runs at 85.33, Kooks Shane McPherson (third grade) with 576 runs at 72, while Andrew Ravenscroft from Shellharbour won the fourth grade award with 294 run at 42.
Penfold and Warren also won their respective grades batting aggregates, while Warren Campion (315 runs), Kevin Bridal (597) and Ian Woods (566) were the other winners.
Kiama skipper Matt O’Brien, whose tenacious captaincy and leg-spin bowling helped his side becoming a real force in the competition where they finished third, won the bowling average with 27 wickets at 8.41.
The Rail veteran Darren O’Connell won the first grade bowling average with 20 wickets at 6.20, Jon Jason from Shellharbour was second grade winner with 16 wickets at 8.94, Brett McKenna from Lake Illawarra was best in third grade with 27 wickets at 11.78, while John Casey won the fourth grade award with 21 wickets at 4.24.
Bowling aggregates were won by O’Brien (Premier League), Nathan Tyrell (The Rail, Dylan Mortenson (The Rail), Dean Bendall (Oak Flats) and Tim Crowther (The Rail).
John Oliver won Umpire of the Year, while Gary Paget (Premier League), Scott Greenwood (first grade) and Kyle Bridge (second grade) did likewise.
Matt Faint and John Bramley were joint winners of the Curator of the Year. Lake Illawarra, apart from winning all three Premier League competitions, were also awarded the Club Championship, while premiers in their respective grades were Lake Illawarra (Premier League), The Rail (first grade), Jamberoo (second grade), Lake Illawarra (third grade) and The Rail (fourth grade).
