The museum is currently holding an exhibition dedicated to those who fought in the Great War and has also developed an online resource detailing all of those from the Shellharbour area who served.
The online exhibition, called Shellharbour Anzacs details almost 200 soldiers from the area who served in WWI and has been put together over the past 12 months by museum staff and volunteers.
Shellharbour Anzacs tells the stories of the Shellharbour and Albion Park Rifles, the Illawarra Lancers, the Light Horse, the Red Cross, the Waratah March, Shellharbour City Rolls of Honour and the organisations and community groups who contributed to the war effort
Shellharbour City Mayor Marianne Saliba is pleased current generations will be able to learn about those who fought for their country.
"It's important that we focus on the past so we don't repeat it, and it's especially important with this year being the Anzac Centenary that we remember those who served," Shellharbour City Mayor Marianne Saliba said.
"These are local people and it's great that we can learn about the people from our area who gave their lives for us."
Cr Saliba said Shellharbour residents seem to recognise the importance of paying their respects to Australia's past and present service men and women.
"Australia is a democracy thanks to who fought for that right, and I think we have an obligation to do right by our service men and women and recognise what they have done for us," she said.
"Albion Park RSL have their Dawn Service and Warilla have their service at the War Memorial in Shellharbour and then there are the services done by places like Oak Flats and Warilla bowling clubs and they are all well attended which is great to see."
Shellharbour City Council's Anzac Day Service will be held at the Shellharbour City Memorial in Harrison Park from 7.20am-8.30am.
Members of the Warilla and Albion Park RSL-Sub Branches will be in attendances and the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society will conduct a fly-over.
The Shellharbour Anzacs resource is available at shellharbour.nsw.gov.au.
