Just after midnight on Saturday, April 18 an 18-year-old Warilla man was at his home, when a 17-year-old male known to him began yelling at him from outside his home.
The man opened the front door where he was confronted by the 17-year-old who lunged forward and struck him in the face with a small hammer.
The impact caused the victim to fall backwards onto his grandmother and they both fell to the ground.
Lake Illawarra police allege that the teenager had continued to strike the victim several times in the face with a hammer before leaving the scene.
The victim received a broken nose, deep wounds to his face and upper lip, as well as a fracture to his cheek bone.
Ambulance and Police were called a short time later and the victim was treated at the scene for his injuries. He was transferred to the Wollongong Hospital for further examination.
The young person is now wanted in relation to this offence.
