About 3.30am on Wednesday, the alarm was activated at the hotel.
The owner immediately contacted police, who arrived a short time later.
It appears access was gained on the western side of the building into the hotel.
Damage to the door jamb indicates the door was kicked open.
A car described as a white commodore station wagon, described as possibly a 2000/02 model with silver wheels, black roof racks, and tinted windows was seen in the area a short time before the incident.
It does not appear that any property of significant value was stolen at the time of this offence.
Venue co-owner Jamie Warren said it appeared the offender(s) had attempted to steal some alcohol, but had been “spooked” and left it behind.
An investigation has commenced.
Police are appealing to the public to contact Lake Illawarra Police if they have any information that may assist in the investigation of this incident.
