Gardens of all kinds including big, small, native and rain forest, were inspected and judged as part of the competition.
Competition judge and respected horticulturist, Hazel King said the gardens around the Kiama area were of a comparable quality to gardens across the state.
‘‘I’ve been judging gardens for the past 30 years and the gardens around Kiama are definitely comparable to gardens that I’ve seen all over New South Wales,’’ Ms King said.
‘‘Some of the small gardens we saw were great, people who have had to downsize, yet have kept their passion for gardening alive and made some terrific balcony gardens and some of the bigger gardens, especially some of the ones on acreage were outstanding.’’
Winners in the competition were Angela Pellegrino for best garden over half an acre, Bill and Robyn Phipson for best Garden under half an acre, Ros and Trevor Phillis for best garden with a rose feature, Esmay and Len Foster for best native garden, Robert Curll for best rainforest garden, Doreen Delaney for best balcony garden and Jamberoo Public School for best vegetable garden.
