This event aims to provide the next generation of leaders with inspiration, knowledge and skills they will use in everyday life.

More than 200 students from Stella Maris Shellharbour, Ss Peter and Paul Kiama, Nazareth Shellharbour City and St Paul’s Albion Park came to the grounds of Nazareth on Friday, March 6.

This year’s event organiser Peter Brown from Stella Maris said the theme for 2015 was “Stand Up” which focused heavily on bullying and the decisive actions leaders take in everyday situations.

“There is a strong focus on anti-bullying skills when dealing with physical, verbal, emotional forms of bullying or cyber bullying,” he said.

“The theme ‘stand Up’ looks at bystander behaviour and its role in a bullying situation, it can be positive or negative. We focus on positive bystander behaviours skills where they support the victim, nullify the effects of bullying and general reporting procedures.”

Nazareth Assistant Principal Lisa Tyson said the day was held annually and the teachings continued throughout the year.

“As they’re in year six, they all leaders and are moving into secondary school,” she said.

“It helps the students to develop resilience, self-confidence and the skills to stand up and engage with others.”

There were presentations from the NSW Police Force, the St George Illawarra Dragons Rugby League Club and the Catholic Education departmet in delivering a diverse range of workshops.
