Captivating audiences around Australia with original compositions, choreography and flamenco-frenzied dance floors, Pena Flamenco draw from an intensely diverse mix of musicians, from jazz to funk and classical to Latin, to form a distinctly individual sound.

Percussionist and keyboard player, Byron Mark, is a stalwart of the Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival, having entertained audiences for several years alongside performer, Luke Koteras of Kinetic Method.

However, this year is the first time Pena Flamenca will make an appearance.

“This is the seventh year in a row performing at the festival with Luke,” Mark said.

“There are always great crowds in Kiama. It is definitely a fun festival base for us.”

Wanting a Spanish flavour for this year’s event, organisers approached  Mark and Pena Flamenca  about coming onboard.

Joining the group on stage will be Columbian vocalist, Angela Rosero, who specialises in Latin repertoire, and also flamenco singer, Zoe Velez, who studied in Spain and is one of most sought after vocalists within the genre in Australia.

The debut performance from the eight-piece group will be sure to wow crowds with the passionate and energetic show Pena Flamenca are renowned for.

The group are also accompanied on stage by a flamenco dancer to add an authentic flavour to their locally fused interpretation of Spanish and Latin traditions.

“The first set will be traditional flamenco, featuring Spanish rhythms and harmony. Then towards the end of the show we will play some South American and Latin tunes to get the crowd really fired up,”  Mark said.

Pena Flamenca will be performing at The Kiama Leagues Club from 8.30pm, Saturday, March 7.
