This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is Make It Happen (or #MakeItHappen on social media).
The event will take place on Friday, March 6 from 12pm to 2.30pm at The Pavilion.
The event is being co-presented by Kiama council, Inspiring Women and Business in Heels.
Kiama council’s economic development manager Megan Hutchison said the event would feature two fascinating speakers from varying backgrounds and who offered different messages.
Guest speakers will be Dr Susan Ang and Melissa Browne.
Dr Susan Ang graduated from M. Optometry 2012, and for the past 10 years she has settled in the Illawarra, recently opening Eyestore in Kiama.
Her efforts also extend to assisting in vision cataract camps overseas, serving as Head of Optometry to Cambodia Vision, which services outreach cataract programs to restore sight in rural Cambodia.
Mrs Browne is an accountant, advisor and author, who has written books on being financially accountable.
‘‘We tried to get speakers who are making it happen, and not just sitting back having a dream and thinking about what to do,’’ Mrs Hutchison said. ‘‘Their message is fairly inspiring.
‘‘We hope people will be inspired to achieve whatever they set their mind to, and to really look at their lives and to make sure that they’re getting out of it what they want to get out of it.
‘‘And have the courage to talk to others about what they want to do.’’
Inspiring Women - Illawarra hostess Michelle Springett emphasised that all women were invited.
‘‘You don’t have to be in business; you’re welcome to come along and enjoy the day with us,’’ she said.
