Shellharbour Red Cross publicity officer Sandra Pearson said that the increasing age of members and the inability to attract younger ones, meant that it had become too hard to go door-to-door.
"I'm afraid that the 'dames on frames' and 'chicks on sticks' were well and truly past it, so the four local branches have taken advantage of the facility at Bunnings to run our campaign," Mrs Pearson said.
Albion Park Branch will be on duty on March 7-8, Shellharbour will be holding a barbecue on March 14 and collection on March 15.
It will be Oak Flats' turn on March 21 and 22, while Dapto will be collecting on March 28.
"Red Cross Calling is such an important part of our fundraising, but we have now come to the realisation that we just aren't as young as we used to be and will be hoping that the community will support us in our collections," Mrs Pearson said.
