The $37.8 million project, which will provide 128 much-needed aged care beds at a location close to the new Shell Cove Marina, has the backing of the state government, with $17 million from the Restart Illawarra Fund.
Warrigal’s aged care home is one of 12 projects to benefit from the $100 million Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure fund from the long term lease of Port Kembla Harbour.
“The project will create 366 jobs during construction, which will inject $43.3 million into the economy as well as 128 direct care jobs once the project is completed, putting an estimated $166.6 million into the economy,” Mr Ajaka said.
“As well as the aged-care beds, there will also be 33 villas, 47 apartments and six serviced apartments, meaning a huge boost for aged care in the region.”
Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell said the new project was another piece in the plan, adding to their other homes in the area.
“We hope to start preliminary work on-site in March and construction on the first stage in August 2015,” Mr Sewell said.
“We are extremely excited about this new project which will have all the latest in technology, while offering residents all the comforts of home.”
